Why AI Is Now a CFO-Level Risk

AI has moved from the IT budget line into the financial fabric of the organization. It is touching controls, vendor relationships and decision-making in ways that land squarely on the CFO’s desk — whether they invited it there or not. This opening session sets the stakes for everything that follows.

  • What changes when AI moves from a tool your IT team manages to a risk your entire leadership team owns?
  • Where are CFOs most likely to be caught off guard — and what are peers already dealing with?
  • What does AI risk actually cost when something goes wrong?

1:30 – 2:10 PM

The AI Risk Landscape: What Every CFO Needs to Understand

This session gives finance leaders a clear-eyed view of the specific risks AI introduces into financial operations — from agentic systems operating inside finance workflows to AI-powered fraud that is faster and harder to detect than anything that came before. This isn’t a technology briefing. It’s a financial risk briefing.

  • What does it mean for your organization when an AI system can initiate transactions or approve payments without a human in the loop?
  • How are cybercriminals using AI to target finance teams specifically — and what does that mean for your controls?
  • What vendor risks are hiding in the AI-enabled tools your organization is already using?

2:10 – 2:50 PM

What Your CIO, CISO and GC Want You to Know: A Conversation CFOs Need to Hear

CFOs don’t need to become technology or legal experts. But they do need to understand what their counterparts are seeing because the decisions that follow belong to finance. This session brings a CIO, CISO, and general counsel perspective directly to a finance audience, translating technical and legal risk into financial terms.

  • What are CIOs and CISOs most worried about that hasn’t reached the CFO’s desk yet?
  • Where are the contractual and liability gaps in how most organizations are procuring AI-enabled tools?
  • What questions should CFOs be asking their technology and legal teams before the next vendor conversation?

2:50 – 3:10 PM

Tabletop Exercise: When an AI Tool Becomes a Financial Risk Event

This is where the afternoon becomes real. Working through an evolving scenario involving a deployed AI finance automation tool, attendees will make the decisions that matter most under pressure — across four escalating rounds. The scenario is realistic by design: a vulnerability surfaces, a vendor disclosure raises questions about data use, and the AI tool has already made recommendations that affected financial controls and vendor payments.

  • Round 1: What do you know — and what do you need to know immediately?
  • Round 2: Who owns the response — CFO, GC, CISO, CIO, audit committee?
  • Round 3: What do you disclose, pause, or escalate — and in what order?
  • Round 4: What should have been in place before this tool was ever deployed?

4:00 – 4:20 PM

Executive Debrief: What Good Oversight Looks Like Before, During and After Deployment

The tabletop exercise surfaces the gaps. This session closes them. Senior practitioners translate the scenario directly into a practical framework — what your organization should have in place before deployment, what active monitoring looks like during it, and what auditability and documentation requirements follow after. You leave with something you can act on.

  • What are the non-negotiables before any AI tool touches a mission-critical workflow?
  • What does an escalation trigger actually look like in practice?
  • How do you report AI risk to leadership and the board in a way that drives decisions rather than just updates?

4:20 – 4:50 PM

What's Coming Next: The Horizon Every CFO Should See

The AI decisions you make today will be (or should be) shaped by what’s coming in the next 24 to 36 months. This session looks ahead at the developments that will change the risk and technology landscape for finance leaders, and, in turn, what CFOs should factor into the technology investments they’re evaluating right now.

  • How will quantum computing affect the security of financial data and the tools built to protect it?
  • What happens when agentic AI moves further into finance workflows — and how do you build controls for something that can act autonomously?
  • How are AI-powered cyber threats evolving — and what does that mean for the tools and vendors you’re evaluating today?

4:50 – 5:00 PM

Closing: Your AI Risk Checklist for the Conversations Ahead

The forum ends where the real work begins. This closing session distills the day into a practical checklist of questions every CFO should be asking — of their technology vendors, their internal teams, and themselves — before any AI-enabled tool is procured, deployed, or scaled.

  • What data will this tool access — and what will it do with it?
  • What happens when it is wrong, and who is responsible?
  • What risks stay with the vendor — and what risks transfer to us?
  • What do we need in place internally before this tool touches a critical workflow?
