What’s In Your Tech Stack?
At the core is our enterprise resource planning system, Spectrum. For project management, we rely on Autodesk Build and Procore, while Nexus manages payroll and job-cost accounting.
As we’ve grown from 500 to 2,000 employees, we’ve expanded the stack to digitize more workflows and move them out of email and spreadsheets, adding Siteline for billing, Flocast for month-end close and multi-stakeholder checklists, and Kojo for purchasing and purchase-order tracking.
Our goal is to have as little manual data entry and as much automation as possible without sacrificing quality or accuracy, especially critical as our organization continues to rapidly scale.
What’s your joy, and what’s your headache?
The joy is seeing software work the way it should, making our employees’ day-to-day life more satisfying. The headache is keeping track of all the new software, multiple contracts and making sure they all play nice together, which requires additional internal support from our IT team.
If you could wave a magic wand, what would you make software companies do for you?
Ideally, ERP and project management platforms would deliver more of the capabilities contractors rely on, such as integrated forecasting and work-in-progress reporting, which would reduce the need to juggle multiple tools.
These systems could improve by expanding built-in functionality or strengthening third-party integration. The fewer disconnected systems we manage, the more time we spend analyzing data instead of reconciling it.
What’s your best piece of tech advice for others in your job?
Keep searching for better solutions and don’t be afraid to test new software. The right tool can completely reshape a workflow for the better.
